The metadata editor can be launched from a number of locations on the administration interface. You will find, however, that only the features related to the specific feature being modified are available to make it easy to get an overview of the editor.
When a channel has been created, metadata properties can be modified on the Metadata settings page. If this feature is not enabled, you may enable it by right-clicking the channel and choosing Enable Features | Metadata. On the General tab of this settings page you may click the General Metadata Macro button to open the metadata editor.
When first opened, the metadata editor is empty – that is, no content has yet been defined. The editor works in such a way that you select a field to modify by clicking on the Add Field button, then the action that should be performed, the content that should be added to the field and finally any conditions that must be met in order for the editing to be carried out.
To illustrate, let’s say that you wish to add a copyright string to all images processed in a channel, but only if no copyright string yet exists in the Copyright field (#116). To do so, choose field #116 in the Field to add drop-down box. Choose the desired action in the next box, in this case Replace previous content. In the Field content field, enter a copyright string, and optionally add any metadata field code by clicking the Insert Code button. Finally, since you only wish to add the copyright string to images that aren’t already tagged with a copyright notice, tick Only if the following condition is met, then choose Field #116 Is Empty.
Where: Channel | Input Options | Index Manager Input tab
Note: This section is related to the topic on using an Index Manager search result as a Color Factory input.
When searching an Index Manager archive for input files, normally you wish to avoid processing the same files several times. Hence, you may configure Color Factory using the metadata editor to add a certain string to a metadata field within the files in the archive that have been processed. To do so, click the Metadata Macro button to open the metadata editor, then click Add Field to begin adding criteria. Typically, you now wish to add information that the file has been processed, or you may want to alter the contents of a certain field.
To illustrate, let’s say that all unprocessed files in the archive have been tagged unpublished in the Edit status field (metadata field #007). After processing, you wish to change the status to Published and insert the date of publishing.
First, choose Field #007 – Edit Status in the Field to Add drop-down list. Then choose the desired action, in this case to replace the previous field content. Enter the new field content in the edit window, for instance Published and click Insert Code and choose %%INSDATE in the list to insert the date of processing the image. Typically, this would be sufficient to tag processed files with the necessary information. However, you may also choose a criterion that must be met for the desired action to happen. To specify a condition, click the corresponding check-box and choose for instance #007 – Edit Status contains unpublished.
Where: Channel | Job Request Files
Note: This section is related to the topic about Job Request files.
Color Factory can be configured so that when a processing request has been made by an external application through a Job Request File (JRF), the processed file(s) are tagged with a publication date or similar information. To do so, click the Metadata Macro button, then click Add Field to specify the text information that should be edited. For instance, you may choose to add the date and time of processing to the Release Date field (#030) when the image is processed, provided that the image has not been published before, in which case you may wish to retain the original date of publishing.
To accomplish this, choose Field #030 in the Field to Add drop-down box and choose Replace previous content. In the Field content area, you could for instance enter %%INSDATE, in which case the date of processing would be filled in. Then set the condition that must be met for this editing to happen. Tick Only if the following condition is met, and choose #030 – Release Date Is Empty.
